A Step-by-Step Guide to FAFSA
1. Obtain the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The form is available from high schools, public libraries and colleges. An electronic version is available from the Department of Education Web site at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
2. Complete your tax returns. You will need these forms to fill out the FAFSA. If you are not able to complete your taxes by March 1, estimated tax information may be used but must be updated when taxes are available.
3. Complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA instructions make the form easy to complete. Be sure to answer all questions completely and correctly. Mistakes and omissions delay the processing of your aid. List University of the Cumberlands’ school code on the last page of the FAFSA so the school can receive your information. If you apply online, be sure to sign and send the signature page to the federal processor.
4. If requested, submit all other materials to the Financial Aid Office at University of the Cumberlands.
5. When all necessary information is received, the Financial Aid Office will send you an award letter stating the aid for which you are eligible.
